Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
St. Maarten – Formateur Theo Heyliger has labeled media reports suggesting that Marcel Gumbs could become the next prime minister as speculative. In a statement issued yesterday afternoon, Heyliger noted that he has not completed the names of the candidate ministers for presentation to Governor Drs. Eugène Holiday.
Heyliger’s statement is “a reaction to speculative media reports that mentioned names of private individuals.†Publicly mentioning individual names without confirmation “puts the individuals mentioned in awkward personal positions,†the formateur pointed out.
The Daily Herald reported yesterday, most likely based on a Spanish-language post on Facebook, that Marcel Gumbs is “tipped to be prime minister.†The story went on to mention other names that have been rumored to become part of the next cabinet.
“Due diligence is followed and coalition partners are being consulted in the yet to be finalized process to identify the candidate ministers,†Heyliger stated in the press release.
